My Joyful Wisdom

Chapter 9 / 25, 4 min read

It's not a person that holds you, it's a feeling

Attachment isn't really to a person — it is to the feeling that wakes up inside you around that person.

You feel you are attached to a person. Their words, their habits, their presence.

But look closely. When that person is in front of you, something specific wakes up inside you — a restlessness, a pull, a sense that "something is about to happen." Is that feeling only about this person? Or has it happened before, somewhere else, with someone else?

Look carefully and you will often find the feeling is the same. People change — the feeling stays.

Right now, someone may be reading this who lost their job yesterday. Or someone who was hurt so badly by a person they trusted that they can’t see a way ahead. At 2 a.m., when they can’t tell anyone, this library is open for them.

It keeps going because someone else — someone having a slightly better day — quietly stands beside them. Your small gift carries the next book to a stranger who may need it more than anything.
