My Joyful Wisdom

Chapter 3 / 25, 4 min read

You are not confused, you were taught

What you call 'I don't understand' is really a learned route. Confusion is a curtain — behind it sits an old habit.

You often tell yourself, “I don’t understand why I do this.”

You have repeated that sentence so many times that you have started to believe it.

It is half true.

Not confusion — an old route

You are not confused. There is a route inside you — one that has been forming for years. Every time something happens, your mind walks down that route — without asking you.

Why that route formed, and when, is probably a long story. Something may have happened again and again in childhood. A habit may have formed to avoid some pain. Some feeling felt good, some felt like danger. Slowly, all of it came together into a structure.

Now when something touches you, you don’t choose your reaction — the structure chooses it.

”I don’t understand” is a soft phrase

Hidden inside it is another message — I can’t do anything about this. I am helpless.

But if you say, “This is a pattern I learned,” everything turns around. What was learned can be seen. And what can be seen can slowly be changed.

In the first sentence you are a victim. In the second — you are in charge.

Things are seen first, then they change

Here is something that sounds backwards but is true — awareness does not come first; it comes after seeing. You cannot force “clarity.” But you can pause and look — again and again. And whatever is looked at that way begins to clear.

The small beginning is just this — next time your mind says “I don’t understand,” pause for a moment. And ask, “Do I really not understand, or am I afraid to look?”

That one question can open the whole journey.

Pause and reflect: How many times today did you tell yourself “I don’t get it” — and how many of those times was it actually true?

Right now, someone may be reading this who lost their job yesterday. Or someone who was hurt so badly by a person they trusted that they can’t see a way ahead. At 2 a.m., when they can’t tell anyone, this library is open for them.

It keeps going because someone else — someone having a slightly better day — quietly stands beside them. Your small gift carries the next book to a stranger who may need it more than anything.
